"What motivates me is the thought that I can make a difference somehow, and I will never know what I can do if I never try. There is so much out there to learn and see, so why would I not go into engineering and try to make a difference."

Eleanor Scott is a Junior Electrical Engineering major from Munford, TN. Her favorite thing about the Herff College of Engineering is the people who are here. She has been able to get involved with clubs, jobs, and the ELLC (Engineering Live and Learn Community), and all of them have amazing people who make this place special. Whether it's seeing her coworkers who make work fun, classmates who make school better, or club members who plan awesome events, it's the people that make Herff special.

Her career goal is to become a power systems engineer or a transformer engineer. She is fascinated with all things related to power distribution, power quality, and transformer maintenance, so she would love to be a part of the career to bring light into everyone's lives. Eleanor is an avid baker, and loves trying out new dishes. She also enjoys writing stories and hanging out with friends. Her high school Physics teacher was one of the main inspirations behind her love of engineering, but her brother Stephen also played a major role. Eleanor says they both have taught her so many things and gave her a passion to learn about electricity and energy. Since Eleanor was ten, she has been involved in her community's local food pantry, Bread of Life Food Pantry. The patrons there are some of the nicest people around, and she cannot think of another place that she would want to spend her time.

She is primarily involved in the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), IEEE HKN (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Honor Society), ITE (Institute of Transportation Engineers), and a member of SWE (Society of Women in Engineering). She loves her job as a STEM Ambassador Coordinator with the West Tennessee STEM Hub and as an Ambassador for the Herff College of Engineering. These jobs have actually helped Eleanor in numerous ways including leading to two internships: one with Hyosung Hico and one with Nucor Steel Memphis.
