What influenced your decision to attend Herff College of Engineering?
I attending in the early 1990s and did not complete my degree. I was able to return
in 2016 and complete my BS in Engineering Technology. My desire to prove to myself
and to my children that anything is possible if you dream, think and do, greatly influenced
my desire to continue my educational journey at the Herff College of Engineering.
How did Herff prepare you for your career?
Early on, I was not as prepared as a student and did not have the mentors I needed.
I think it led me to try hard and once I did reach out to Herff, I was advised and
mentored well from my professors and staff and that has really helped me to continue
and improve in my career.
What skills or knowledge did you learn throughout the program that you found most
helpful in your career?
I learned real world expertise from my professors as well as project management skills
that were really helpful to me.
Who was your most impactful professor? Why?
Professor Todd Canaday because he really presented the material in such a way that
it related to things I would come across in my career.
Were you involved in student groups? If so, which one(s)?
No groups but I was a member of The Mighty Sound of The South marching band between
1991-1994.
What support(s) did you have during your time as a college student? How did you keep
focused on the goal?
I had support from friends and my family but also from my advisor within Herff. This
kept the drive and focus on the ultimate goal and led me to keep on going.
What was your greatest memory from your time at Herff?
Presenting my senior project and getting to see my poster on the halls of the ET building.
What advice would you give those considering enrolling in Herff College of Engineering?
Do not be afraid to ask questions and seek the help needed to understand something.
Herff is full of wonderful admins, advisors and staff that will help you out if you
seek the knowledge.
What do you know now that you wish you had known during your time at Herff?
I just wish the technology from today were available then so that I could have learned
more during my time.
Was your Herff experience worth the price? If you could do it over again, what would
you do differently?
I would have reached out for more help in the nineties and not been so scared of failure.
IT was worth every penny to get to walk across the stage and receive my diploma in
front of my children.
