Dear Herff Family, As we welcome students back to campus for the Fall semester, I want to thank all of
you who work tirelessly to make the Herff College of Engineering all that it can be.
Let me highlight a few milestones that demonstrate we are making progress.
As you can see from the fence around our parking lot, the construction of the new
STEM Research and Classroom building is underway. We are excited about this new Herff
chapter and look forward to the groundbreaking scheduled for Sept. 15.
In AY 2020-2021, the college graduated 21 Doctoral candidates, 39 Masters students,
and 212 BS degrees. These numbers are all highs for the last 10 years. New research
awards increased 130% from fiscal years 2020 to 2022. Six-year graduation rates for
undergraduates in the Fall 2015 cohort were 50%, an increase from 18.2% for the Fall
2021 cohort.
This year, we welcome four new faculty to the college and anticipate that an additional
three will join next year and another two the year after that. This will certainly
bring enthusiasm and new research to the college. I have been associated with the
college for 30 years (with a break in the middle), and I can certainly see the changes
that have occurred. While these changes are good and necessary to establishing Herff
as a center of research and graduate education on campus, we should always remember
our student-centered tradition and focus on their success that makes our college special.
Have a good semester, Russ Deaton |
