Madelyne McGee: A Passion for Nutrition and Wellness
Madelyne McGee, a Memphis native, is an incoming graduate student at the University of Memphis, where she will be pursuing a Master's degree in Clinical Nutrition with the goal of becoming a registered dietitian. Previously, she interned with the University of Memphis Football Program on the Nutrition team, an experience that significantly influenced her career path.
Choosing the Master's Program in Clinical Nutrition
Madelyne’s decision to enroll in the Master's program in Clinical Nutrition at UofM was driven by her longstanding passion for health and wellness. "I have always had a passion for health and wellness, and I know this career path is perfect for me," she shares enthusiastically.
Undergraduate Experience at UofM
Reflecting on her undergraduate years at the University of Memphis, Madelyne speaks highly of the relationships she formed with faculty and peers. "I developed amazing relationships with faculty and students. I created connections that ensured my success in the program and my upcoming Master's Program. I was challenged in my undergraduate courses, which will ensure success in my Master's Program."
Motivation to Continue Education at UofM
Madelyne’s motivation to continue her education at UofM stems from her deep passion for nutrition and the connections she established with the faculty. "I created a deep passion for nutrition and just loved what I was learning. I was able to make connections with the faculty who teach both undergraduate and graduate level nutrition courses, which made the program desirable for me. Staying at the University of Memphis for this Master's degree was a no-brainer."
Influential Mentors and Experiences
Madelyne credits the entire Dietetics faculty for their support, with special recognition to Dr. Tracy Bruen, who was a significant influence on her academic journey. "Dr. Tracy Bruen, in particular, who teaches both undergraduate and graduate level courses, was a huge reason why I wanted to join the Master's Program. She was an excellent teacher who made her classes fun and educational. I truly learned a lot from her."
Additionally, her internship with the University of Memphis Football team provided valuable insights into sports nutrition. "Throughout my internship with the University of Memphis Football team, I learned valuable and important information about sports nutrition that I may have never grasped without the knowledge and help of the football Dietitian."
Excitement for the Master's Program
Madelyne is most excited about the clinical aspect of her Master's program. "Getting to rotate through many areas of Nutrition is so important and valuable. This process will not only teach me so many things but also help decide what area of nutrition I want to go into."
Looking Forward to Graduate School
As a graduate student, Madelyne looks forward to maintaining her presence on campus and staying connected with friends and professors. "I was truly not ready to leave my undergraduate days, but I can still see my favorite friends and professors throughout my journey as a graduate student."
Career Aspirations
Madelyne's primary goal through the Master's program is to acquire comprehensive knowledge
in dietetics to become a successful dietitian. "I aspire to be in the field of Pediatric
Nutrition, but I am open to learning about all specialties throughout my clinical
rotations. I also hope to create new connections and memories here on campus. The
University of Memphis is truly such a wonderful experience, and I hope to get everything
I can out of this program."
