Maria FergusonA juried exhibition, open to all artists 18 and older working in any media residing in AL, AR, FL, GA, KY, LA, MA, MO, MS, NC, OK, TN, TX, SC, VA, or WV. Accepted work will be exhibited in one of two locations: The Martha and Robert Fogelman Galleries of Contemporary Art at the University of Memphis and Gallery 121 at Belmont University in Nashville. The two galleries will be connected through Skype the night of the opening (May 20) and will be open to the public from May 16 – June 17, 2016. Juror: Chad Alligood, Assistant Curator of Special Projects at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, Bentonville, AR.

UNIVERSITY OF MEMPHIS ART EDUCATION ALUMNI JURIED EXHIBITION, 2016

SCHEDULE:

  • February 8
    Art Alumni/Student Submission Deadline and accepting work 3:30-5:30, Gallery A, Art and Communication Building, 3715 Central Avenue.
  • February 19
    Opening Reception - 3:30-5:30 pm Awards at 4:00, The Martha and Robert Fogelman Galleries of Contemporary Art.
  • March 14
    Pick up work - 3:30-5:30 Art and Communication Building, room 114, Art Education.

CRITERIA:

  • Title: University of Memphis 10th Annual Art Education Alumni Juried Exhibition
  • Theme: "Finding New Words Through Vision and Creativity"
  • Media Focus: Painting, Collage, Assemblage, Ceramics, Mixed Media, Print, Pastel, Photography

Each alumni must submit one recent work of art, and two students work (one male and one female). The artwork must communicate visually the theme of "Finding New Words Through Vision and Creativity". Student work may or may not show a relationship to their Art Teacher's work. Share your visual interpretation of finding new words through creativity and vision. This theme can be visually communicated through content or media.

The University of Memphis Annual Art Education Alumni Juried Exhibition features area K-12 art educators who are graduates of The University of Memphis Art Education Program, or who have completed coursework at the University during their teaching preparation or careers. This exhibition is held each year during Youth Art Month and is in accordance with the mission and vision of The University of Memphis, the Department of Art, and the Tennessee Art Education Association.

33rd Annual Juried Student Exhibition at The University of Memphis

The 33rd Annual Juried Student Exhibition is a competitive art exhibition of works of all media open to eligible University of Memphis students selected by judge Michael Aurbach, a sculptor and Professor at Vanderbilt University. Selected works will be on view in The Martha and Robert Fogelman Galleries of Contemporary Art from January 22 to February 5, 2016.

DEADLINE FOR ONLINE SUBMISSIONS IS FRIDAY, DECEMBER 18, 2015, AT 11:59 PM CT.

ELIGIBILITY

University of Memphis undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in a U of M Department of Art course in 2015 (i.e. Spring, Summer, or Fall 2015). This includes studio art, graphic design, and photography. Non-majors are welcome to enter. Students who have graduated and are not currently enrolled at U of M cannot submit an entry (Fall 2015 graduates are eligible).

AWARDS

  • President's Purchase Award: $1,000 art purchase (sponsored by the Office of the President); open to all students
  • Graduate Purchase Award: $1,000 art purchase (sponsored by the Graduate School); open to graduate students only
  • Department of Art Award (one Undergraduate, one Graduate): cash prize
  • Merit Awards: Two $100 Merchandise Certificates (sponsored by Art Center Supply Stores, Inc.), annual memberships to local museums; open to all students

Awards will be presented at the opening reception at The Martha and Robert Fogleman Galleries of Contemporary Art on Friday, January 22, 2016, 5-8 PM.

ENTRY GUIDELINES

  • Limit of two (2) entries per student
  • Works must have been completed in 2015
  • Work cannot include live organic material, candles, or open flames
  • Work cannot exceed 120 inches in height (10 feet) when installed and must be able to clear the front entrance of ACB (60 X 76 inches); works exceeding these dimensions may be considered for alternative spaces.
  • Entries selected for the exhibition must be outfitted with appropriate hanging or installation hardware and must be dropped off at the Fogelman Galleries January 14-15, 2016

HOW TO ENTER

  • Complete all required fields of the online entry submission form
  • Each online entry MUST be accompanied by 1-2 uploaded images (alternate views, for example) or other media files for consideration
  • Please complete a second entry form if you wish to submit a second entry
  • Applicants will be notified of selection in early January
