When to Apply

To receive priority consideration Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as early as possible.

NOTE: For the 2025-2026 aid year (Fall 2025, Spring 2026, and Summer 2026), the Tennessee Student Assistance Award (TSAA) deadline is April 15, 2025.  If you are a Tennessee resident, are Pell eligible, pursuing a first bachelor's degree, and meet other state criteria, you may miss out on receiving this grant if you complete the FAFSA after the April 15th deadline.

Entering in Spring? Submit by October 1st

Entering in Summer?  Submit by March 1st

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:

  • The 2025-2026 aid year includes Fall 2025, Spring 2026, and Summer 2026.
  • The 2024-2025 aid year includes Fall 2024, Spring 2025, and Summer 2025. 
  • Summer aid requires manual review and evaluation. Visit our summer page for more information about this process. 
  • June 30, 2025 is the federal deadline to submit your FAFSA for the 2024-2025 school year (June 30, 2026 for the 2025-2026 school year).
  • Failure to meet the FAFSA and document submission deadlines may result in late payment fees and/or registration cancellation due to non-payment.

Financial Aid Processing Timeline 2025-2026

Your attention to this timeline will help to ensure your aid is processed prior to your first day of class.

New Freshmen/New Transfer Students

  • December 2024 - Complete the 2025-2026 FAFSA online for the 2025-2026 academic year (includes Fall 2025, Spring 2026 and Summer 2026). As soon as you complete your FAFSA, you will receive a FAFSA Submission Summary from the U.S. Department of Education. The FAFSA Submission Summary is the preliminary results of your FAFSA. Read this carefully as it may include important information about your FAFSA in case there was an error or additional information is needed. 
  • December 2024 -  Monitor your UofM email as well as your myMemphis portal regularly. Once we load your FAFSA and begin reviewing eligibility for the upcoming year, we will post alerts to your myMemphis account and send email notifications to your UofM email. Submit all requested items EARLY to ensure MAXIMUM consideration for financial aid. Some aid is very limited and awarded on a first come, first serve basis. After submitting any requested items, continue to monitor your myMemphis account and UofM email for alerts in case we need additional information. NOTE: The priority deadline to submit ALL required documents for the Fall term is April 15.
  • December 2024 - View your Financial Aid Offer for Fall 2025 and Spring 2025 on your myMemphis portal by selecting the Financial Aid and Scholarships tile. If necessary, change award years by choosing the Award Information by Year option. The Student Requirements section will indicate if you are missing any financial aid documents for a particular award year.
  • April 2025 - July 2025 - Continue to monitor your myMemphis portal and email for any new or outstanding requirements that need to be completed for the Fall 2025 semester.
  • July 2025 - You are LATE in applying for financial aid and/or submitting required documents.
  • August 2025 - You are EXTREMELY LATE in applying for Financial Aid and/or submitting required documents. Your aid may not be processed by the fall fee payment deadline. You may need to cover your own fees until such time that your aid can be processed.

Continuing Students

  • December 2024 - Complete the 2025-2026 FAFSA online for the 2025-2026 academic year (includes Fall 2025, Spring 2026 and Summer 2026).   • April/May 2025 - Students with a completed financial aid file will receive a preliminary aid offer for the 2025-2026 aid year.  This prelimiary offer will only include Federal Student Aid.  Institutional and State aid/scholarships will be posted by early June after spring grade are finalized. You can view your Financial Aid Award for Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 on myMemphis by clicking the Student Pages tab and then then My Finances. If necessary, change award years by choosing the Award Information by Year option. The Student Requirements section will indicate if you are missing any financial aid documents for a particular award year.
  • May/June 2025 - The Student Financial Aid Office will review your financial aid file and compliance with the Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) policy. If you are not meeting the SAP policy, then new requirements will be added to your account and you will need to appeal to continue receiving financial aid.  Please check your myMemphis portal for additional details.
  • June/July 2025 - Continue to monitor your myMemphis portal and email for any new or outstanding requirements that need to be completed for the Fall 2025 semester.
  • July 2025 - You are LATE in applying for financial aid and/or submitting required documents.
