Tiyana Childres accepted into Harvard Business School SVMP

For release:  June 8, 2017

Tiyana Childres, honors student in the Department of Management, was recently accepted into the Harvard Business School (HBS) Summer Venture in Management Program (SVMP). SVMP is a one-week residential educational program for rising college seniors designed to increase diversity and opportunity in business education. This summer's program will be the 35th anniversary of SVMP.

SVMP is an annual event that provides a unique educational experience to help participants develop a broader understanding of the challenges business leaders face, the many dimensions of the business world, and the impact they can have on their community and the world through business leadership. The program uses the renowned case method of instruction and HBS faculty lead class discussions on current management issues. Participants spend evenings analyzing real business cases and use morning study groups and classes to examine and debate their ideas through lively interaction with peers and faculty. The academic program is supplemented by presentations from HBS administrators and alumni who provide information about the impact of an MBA.

Tiyana is one of 90 students accepted to the program from the United States. Candidates submitted an application detailing their campus involvement, academic accomplishments, and community service. Tiyana was a strong candidate based upon her achievements. She is the current president of the University of Memphis SHRM Student Chapter, which recently received the national Superior Merit Chapter Award. She served as a team leader for the first place SHRM national student case competition team. Tiyana is also working as an intern in the AutoZone Human Resources department this summer.
