For release:  December 12, 2016

Tyler Stegall, president of the University of Memphis' student Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) chapter, was recently presented the 2016 Human Resource Student of the Year Award. This award is a part of the SHRM Human Resource Excellence Awards.

The Human Resource Excellence Award ceremonies are held annually to recognize community leaders who make a difference in the field of human resources. The awards are selected by a diverse committee of SHRM board members and experienced human resource professionals. The SHRM Memphis professional chapter supports future human resource leaders through the University of Memphis' student SHRM chapter. Through this chapter, college students interested in the human resource profession meet monthly during the fall and spring semesters.

"We're so proud of Tyler and his recognition as a top human resources student in our community," said Dr. Charles Pierce, chair of the department of Management.

"Tyler is an exceptional student in every way. He has a 3.9 grade point average and an exceptional internship with the City of Memphis. Tyler is already an active part of the Memphis human resource community, as he is now coordinating the Urban Fellows Internship Program for the City of Memphis," said Dr. Kathy Tuberville, SHRM Faculty Advisor.
