Shelby County Trustee and FCBE build intellectual bridges for high school students
For release: August 30, 2016
FCBE's Department of Finance, Insurance, and Real Estate recently supported the efforts
of Shelby County Trustee David Lenoir and Dr. PK Jain, interim FIR department chair,
by holding a summer boot camp named the Young Wall Street Traders. The camp was hosted
to improve the financial literacy among local high schoolers.
Will Zhang, Ph.D. student in the FIR department, trained all of the campers to become Bloomberg Certified in the Cook Analytics and Trading Lab. This certification is a very rare and precious accomplishment for high-school students. The group was composed of 16 eighth through twelfth grade students.
"We are delighted to have been able to offer this unique opportunity to local high school students," said Dr. Jain, interim chair of the FIR department. "They are now prepared to take what they've learned beyond the basics of money management and into the world of trading on the stock market."
