FCBE Remembers MIS Student, Patricia Guerrero, with Memorial
For release: October 2, 2014
The Fogelman College of Business and Economics recently hosted a memorial to honor
Patricia Guerrero, a MIS undergraduate student who passed away last year due to a
tragic accident. The emotional ceremony included family, friends, and MIS classmates
of Patricia as well FCBE faculty and staff.
The MIS Department worked closely with the University’s Physical Plant and Campus
Planning and Design offices to identify an ideal space for the memorial. With the
support of the Dean's Office, the MIS Department secured funds to plant a Crimson
Queen Japanese Maple tree and install a permanent bronze plaque in the FCBE courtyard.
As part of the service, Dr. Brian Janz, a professor from the MIS Department, spoke
to the assembled group.
“It was important for us to memorialize Patricia’s life,” said Janz. “She was one
of those students who brightened the lives of everyone she touched. Her memorial serves
to honor her life and remind FCBE students that Patricia -- as well as all FCBE students
-- matter to us and are part of our Fogelman family now and into the future."
Patricia’s sister, Maira, was present for the unveiling.
“I have no words to express our gratitude to the MIS Department and Fogelman College,”
she said. “My family and I are truly touched by the level of compassion we have received
from the Fogelman College during this difficult time.”
