Biography
Cyril F. Chang, PhD, is Professor Emeritus of Economics at the University of Memphis where he served from 2003 to 2018 as the inaugural Director of the Methodist Le Bonheur Center for Healthcare Economics. While in Memphis, he also served as an adjunct Professor of Economics in the Department of Preventive Medicine at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.
Dr. Chang taught Health Care Economics and Executive MBA Economics for many years and regularly conducted executive training seminars and workshops for health care professionals and executives. He authored a health economics book and published more than 150 refereed articles and book chapters on a wide range of economic and health services research topics.
In 2004, Dr. Chang won the University of Memphis’ Board of Visitors Eminent Faculty Award, the highest distinction given annually to one faculty member who has made sustained contributions to the University in scholarly activity, teaching, and service. He was also a double recipient of the University’s Distinguished Teaching Award and Distinguished Research Award and a three-time winner of the Fogelman College’s Suzanne Palmer Professorship for teaching, research and services, respectively. For his successes in funded research, Dr. Chang was recognized in 2017 by the University of Memphis as a “Principal Investigator Millionaire” for winning more than $1 million of external research grants.
