Master of Science - Information Systems

Program Overview

 

The Master of Science in Information Systems (MSIS) degree combines business management with information technologies, preparing students to succeed in careers such as business and systems analysts, data analysts, systems and application designers, technology project managers and leaders, and more.

The program is designed to support both full-time and part-time completion of the degree plus a pathway to the department's PhD program.

The MSIS curriculum emphasizes crucial topics such as

  • technology innovation
  • cybersecurity knowledge
  • data analytics including;
    • data mining, machine learning and artificial intelligence for business
  • mobile app development
  • strategic technology planning
  • technical systems competency
  • project management

Degree Outline


The program requires 33 semester hours of approved graduate studies. Twenty-one or more hours must be in MIS courses.
 
  1. Core Courses - 18 hrs. (6 courses)
    • MIS 7650 - Info Syst Global Enterprise
    • MIS 7700 - Fundamentals of Data Analytics
    • MIS 7605 - Bus Database Systems
    • MIS 7610 - Sys Analysis & Design
    • MIS 7620 - Business Machine Learning I
    • MIS 7640 - Inform Sys Mgmt/Plan

  2. Electives -  15 hrs. (5 courses)*

Because the MSIS degree is STEM-coded, international students who graduate may be eligible to work in the U.S. for 36 months after graduation–without corporate sponsorship!

icon Admission Guidelines

  1. U.S. bachelor’s degree or its equivalent, awarded by an accredited college or university.
    • The MSIS program will consider three-year degrees from accredited institutions. 

  2. GPA of 2.75 (on a 4.0 scale). 

  3. GRE score of 300 or greater. (GMAT scores also considered.)  

GRE scores are waived for: 

  • Students with a bachelor’s degree and a 3.25 or better. 

  • Students with a post graduate degree in which they received a GPA of 3.0 or better. 

  • Students who have completed a graduate certificate in MIS with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better. 

  • Students who have a proven working career in the IT field of 5 or more years and a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA of 2.75. 


Note: All transcripts and related institutions are reviewed by the graduate school for confirmation relative to our admissions criteria. 

If an applicant is required to submit standardize test scores, below are the minimum requirements for admission: 

  • GRE: 300 or better (overall score) 

  • GMAT (traditional): 450 or better (overall score) 

  • GMAT (new/Focus): 455 or better (overall score) 

Proficiency at full communication using English is a central element of success in the MSIS program. 

  • DET (Duolingo English Test) - Overall minimum of 110 with no sub-score below 80. 

  • TOEFL - 550 on paper version, 80 on internet-based test with no sub-score below 20. 

  • IELTS - Overall minimum of 6.5 with no sub-score below 6.0. 

  • PTE (Pearson) - Overall minimum of 59 

 

FALL Semester Start: 

  • Application Submission Date: May 1st 
  • F1 students: Recommended Immigration Documentation Completion: July 1st

SPRING Semester Start: 

  • Application Submission Date:  December 1st 
  • F1 students: Recommended Immigration Documentation Completion: January 1st

SUMMER Semester Start: 

  • Application Submission Date: February 1st 
  • F1 students: Recommended Immigration Documentation Completion: April 1st
