Laboratory Safety
Laboratories present unique hazards and are among the most high-risk areas on a university campus. Environmental Health and Safety provides guidance for all areas of laboratory safety including chemical safety, biological safety and radiation safety. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulates labs by the "lab standard" (29CFR1910.1450), which requires the development of a chemical hygiene plan. The requirements as they apply to the university can be found in the university Chemical Hygiene Plan. More broad guidance that applies to all areas of laboratory safety can be found in the Laboratory Safety Manual.
