Why Join STEA?
Joining the Student Tennessee Education Association (STEA) at the University of Memphis offers numerous benefits and opportunities. Members receive liability insurance, scholarship opportunities, and assistance with Praxis Core and Praxis tests. They also gain access to valuable resources such as classroom management tips and support for job protection and cyber safety.
STEA emphasizes community outreach, engaging stakeholders to positively impact learning communities, and encourages participation in social and political advocacy to influence the public education system. By promoting social justice and fostering culturally responsive educators, STEA prepares members to make a meaningful impact in the field of education while enhancing their professional development.
Prospective members can apply for membership through the National Education Association (NEA). Annual dues are $30.
Chapter Offices
President: Works closely with the chapter's advisors and regional vice president seeking advice and help in the promotion of an effective local chapter.
Vice President: Should be of service to the president at all times. The vice president may serve as chairperson of the program committee.
Secretary: Keeps notes during meetings and maintains chapter records
Treasurer: Responsible for the collection and distribution of chapter dues and funds. The treasurer’s records should be kept carefully, and should be balanced at all times.
PR/Historian: Acts as Social Media manager and keeps a complete record of the activities of the local chapters, including creating a scrapbook.
