Grow Your Own Teacher Apprenticeship Program

The University of Memphis College of Education is proud to participate in Tennessee’s Grow Your Own (GYO) initiative, a statewide program designed to strengthen Tennessee’s teacher workforce by nurturing future educators right from our local communities. This initiative addresses critical needs in our schools by offering a streamlined pathway for aspiring teachers.

Through GYO, the University of Memphis joins 12 other approved Educator Preparation Programs across the state in partnership with local school districts. This collaboration creates a direct route for students interested in teaching to gain the necessary training and credentials required for teaching in our classrooms.

One of the key benefits of this initiative is the Tennessee Teacher Apprenticeship, which serves as a sustainable recruitment strategy. It not only addresses current staffing challenges but also ensures a steady supply of qualified teachers for the future.

Furthermore, the University of Memphis College of Education has secured subgrant funding from the Tennessee Grow Your Own Center. This funding supports teacher apprentices by covering tuition, fees, Praxis examination costs, and mentor stipends.

Join us in shaping the future of education in Tennessee through the Grow Your Own initiative. Together, we are building a stronger, more resilient teacher pipeline that benefits our local communities and schools.
