College Faculty and Staff Recognized for Career Milestones

January 31, 2025 – The College of Education honored 13 faculty and staff Friday for their years of service at the University of Memphis. These periods of service ranged from five to 40 years. The University recognized 254 total faculty and staff at the ceremony.

“We are deeply grateful for the incredible service these faculty and staff members have committed to our College and University. Their dedication, hard work and unwavering commitment to our students have been critical to our success and we truly appreciate all of the years they have given to helping us grow and thrive. Their contributions have not only shaped who we are today as a College, but generations of students who have enrolled in our programs,” Dean Michael Miller said.

Career milestones at UofM are awarded in increments of five years. Below are the career milestone awardees for the COE for the 2024 calendar year.

40 Years of Service:

  • Mary Lanier, Office of Teacher Education and Clinical Practice

35 Years of Service:

  • Karen Weddle-West, Department of Counseling, Educational Psychology and Research

25 Years of Service:

  • Sandra Cooley-Nichols, Department of Instruction and Curriculum Leadership

20 Years of Service:

  • Chrisann Schiro-Geist, Department of Counseling, Educational Psychology and Research
  • Shelby Tate, Department of Instruction and Curriculum Leadership
  • Yonghong Xu, Department of Counseling, Educational Psychology and Research

15 Years of Service:

  • Torre Kelley, Department of Instruction and Curriculum Leadership (Lambuth)
  • Vernisa Hazlett, Department of Instruction and Curriculum Leadership

10 Years of Service:

  • Eraina Schauss, Department of Counseling, Educational Psychology and Research
  • Charmaine Sego, Department of Instruction and Curriculum Leadership
  • Leigh Harrell-Williams, Department of Counseling, Educational Psychology and Research

5 Years of Service:

  • Keith Hembree, Recruitment and Retention Coordinator
  • Janet Wiens, Pre-Awards Coordinator
