Fast Facts about the College of Education

1 We are one college, the College of Education
2 The College of Education's Teacher Prep Program was ranked second among traditional institutions in the State of Tennessee for graduates who received a four or higher (77%) out of a possible five in principal evaluations. This was according to the state's latest Educator Preparation Report Card.
3 The College of Education is comprised of three departments: The Departments of Counseling, Educational Psychology & Research (CEPR), The Department of Instruction and Curriculum Leadership (ICL), and the Department of Leadership (LEAD).
6 Also housed within the College of Education are six centers and institutes. The Center for Research in Educational Policy (CREP) is one of just 26 academic centers in the State of Tennessee designated as a Center of Excellence by the state's Higher Education Commission. We also house the UofM Autism Clinic>, BRAIN Center>, University of Memphis Center for Literacy Research and Practice>, University of Memphis Institute on Disability (UMID)>, and Midsouth Access Center for Technology (ACT)>.

What's more is our online graduate program was ranked #121, which was up from #146 in their previous report and the highest ranked among all public universities in Tennessee. 1912 The year our college was founded, making us the oldest college at the University of Memphis. Originially, UofM was founded as the West Tennessee State Normal School - a teaching college. From the beginning, education has been at the heart of the university's course and program offerings. As UofM has evolved over the last century, so have we.
