Admission Requirements

  • A strong background in mathematics
    • Required: at one semester of calculus taken in the mathematics department (not business calculus) with good performance
    • Strongly suggested: additional semesters of calculus and one semester of statistics
  • A background in economics
    • Best to have taken at least intermediate-level microeconomics and macroeconomics
  • We also consider test scores (either GRE or GMAT accepted), particularly quantitative scores, and undergraduate grade point average, particularly in math and economics courses.
    • GRE/GMAT is currently optional, but we recommend it, particularly for international applicants.
  • For international students only: perform adequately on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).

How To Apply

  1. Complete online application here;
  2. Send GRE or GMAT scores to the Graduate School (institution code: R-1459);
  3. Have all official transcripts sent to the Graduate School;
  4. Include 2 letters of recommendation with your online application. We strongly recommend that these are from FACULTY who have taught you in economics or mathematics classes, not work supervisors or personal friends;
  5. International Applicants only:
    1. Have official transcripts evaluated by an external agency such as WES
    2. Send TOEFL scores to the Graduate School (use code #1459)

When To Apply

  • Applications are received and considered on a rolling basis. To be considered for funding, we suggest applying by March.
  • Prospective students should submit all application materials by late June to be considered for admission.
  • International applicants should submit all application materials by late April to be considered for admission.
