Admission Requirements
- A strong background in mathematics
- Required: at one semester of calculus taken in the mathematics department (not business
calculus) with good performance
- Strongly suggested: additional semesters of calculus and one semester of statistics
- A background in economics
- Best to have taken at least intermediate-level microeconomics and macroeconomics
- We also consider test scores (either GRE or GMAT accepted), particularly quantitative
scores, and undergraduate grade point average, particularly in math and economics
courses.
- GRE/GMAT is currently optional, but we recommend it, particularly for international
applicants.
- For international students only: perform adequately on the Test of English as a Foreign
Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).

- Have all official transcripts sent to the Graduate School;
- Include 2 letters of recommendation with your online application. We strongly recommend
that these are from FACULTY who have taught you in economics or mathematics classes,
not work supervisors or personal friends;
- International Applicants only:
- Have official transcripts evaluated by an external agency such as WES
- Send TOEFL scores to the Graduate School (use code #1459)
When To Apply
- Applications are received and considered on a rolling basis. To be considered for
funding, we suggest applying by March.
- Prospective students should submit all application materials by late June to be considered
for admission.
- International applicants should submit all application materials by late April to
be considered for admission.
