What is Economics?

Economics is commonly defined as a social science focusing on the exchange of goods and serives, and between supply and demand. Those who study economics seek to understand trends — especially around production and consumption — on a small (microeconomics) or large (macroeconomics) scale.

Economists work in a variety of industries, analyzing market trends to improve an organization’s operations & forecast sales or studying sociological problems to shape policy.

Economics also attempts to answer questions related to the spending habits of individuals and communities.

What Will You Learn?

Many assume that the study of economics is only about finance and the stock market, but in truth, the field is much broader. Students learn to analyze economic behavior, understand market dynamics, and evaluate the impact of policies and interventions on economic outcomes.

Economics delves into the science of human behavior, intersecting such diverse disciplines as law, anthropology, physics, sociology, engineering, history, math, education, medicine, environment and agriculture. As a student of economics, you will tap into all these fields to gain an understanding of how markets function. Organizations in nearly  every industry use economic analysis to forecast business and societal trends.
