Application Process
The Department of Earth Sciences follows a rolling admissions procedure for prospective graduate students. Rolling admissions means that we accept applications to our graduate program year-round. However, to be considered for funding through a Graduate Assistantship (GA), applications must be received by the following deadlines:
- Fall Term Deadline: January 31st
- Spring Term Deadline: November 1st
To apply, complete the Graduate School's online application. You will need to provide the following information in the online application:
- GPA
- Graduate Record Exam (GRE) Scores
- Statement of research interests
- A writing sample (no length requirement)
- Contact information for three references
- Resume or Curriculum Vitae (CV), if applying for an assistantship

International Students must also include:
- English proficiency test scores. Any one of the following is accepted:
- Duolingo English Test (minimum of 110 required)
- IELTS (minimum of 6.5 required)
- Pearson Test of English (PTE; minimum of 59 required)
- TOEFL (minimum of 550 requried on paper version or 80 on internet-based version)
- Affidavit of Support and Educational Background Statement
- Foreign university credentials must be evaluated by the National Association of Credentials Evaluation Services
