NSSLHA Board 2023-34

NSSLHA

The University of Memphis Chapter of the National Student Speech-Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA) is a very active and longstanding organization. All students enrolled in the School of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Memphis are automatically members of the local chapter and are encouraged to join the National NSSLHA organization as well.

The local chapter participates in many activities each year that include assisting with travel expenses to the annual ASHA convention, sponsoring short workshops and teleconferences of special interest, supporting various charitable organizations, hosting seasonal parties, and sponsoring the Mid-South Conference on Communicative Disorders.

The highlight of each year is the Mid-South Conference, held annually in late February or early March. The 2-day conference is designed to provide audiologists and speech-language pathologists with information regarding current research, new concepts and best practice procedures in the clinic, and newly developed clinical techniques. Organized in 1970, the Mid-South Conference is the oldest and largest student sponsored conference in the country, drawing hundreds of audiologists, speech-language pathologists, educators, physicians, and parents from the U.S. and Canada. It features a variety of nationally and internationally recognized guest speakers in the field of communication sciences and disorders who offer workshops and short courses. The conference is the major activity organized and conducted by the graduate students of The University of Memphis Chapter of NSSLHA.
