Grants

Dr. Eugene Buder was awarded the School of Communication Sciences & Disorders 2022 Faculty Research Grant for his project, “Syllable Rhythms and Conversational Exchanges”. 

Dr. Sarah Warren was awarded the School of Communication Sciences & Disorders 2022 Faculty Research Grant for her project, “The Memphis SOUND Project: Community-Based Approach to Understand Cochlear Implant Utilization”. 

Awards

Dr. Lisa Lucks Mendel received the 2022 Honors of the Council of Academic Programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders (CAPCSD). This award is presented to those individuals whose contributions to the Council and/or to academic education in Communication Sciences and Disorders have been of such magnitude that their impact on the Council or on the education of speech-language pathologists, audiologists, or speech and hearing scientists – through clinical practice, teaching, research, administration, service, or legislative activity is recognized throughout the professional community. The Honors of the Council is the highest honor bestowed by the Council.

*Janine Peca, received 2nd place in the Social and Behavioral Sciences category at the UofM’s Graduate Student Research Forum.

*Bhanu Shukla, a doctoral candidate in the Speech Perception Assessment Laboratory, received the James and Susan Jerger Award for Excellence in Student Research from the American Academy of Audiology Foundation at the 2022 convention of the American Academy of Audiology. His poster was entitled, “Ecological noise and its effect on speech perception.”

Vicki Haddix and *Janine Peca were interviewed for the podcast, Talking with Tech. They talked about pre-service education in AAC & mentoring afterward. Janine, as a recent graduate, spoke about her experiences as an autistic graduate student in our SLP program. It is scheduled to air later this summer.
