NEW FACULTY: JAMESON

Morgan Jameson Headshot
Assistant Professor, Speech-Language Pathology

We are pleased to welcome Dr. Morgan Jameson to the University of Memphis as an Assistant Professor in Speech-Language Pathology. Dr. Jameson earned degrees in Speech and Hearing Science, Linguistics, and Spanish at The Ohio State University. She then completed her masters in Speech-Language Pathology and practiced clinically in a school setting, serving (primarily autistic) students across a range of pre-K to post-secondary programs. Driven by her interest in autism and the neurodiversity movement, Dr. Jameson returned to OSU to pursue a PhD in in the department of Speech and Hearing Science, with a focus on communication and neurodiversity.

Dr. Jameson’s research focuses on communication effectiveness, linguistic alignment, and rapport development between communication partners with similar and differing neurotypes. Her goal is to establish a strong evidence base for neurodiversity-affirming communication supports. Currently, her focus is on exploring the intersection of communication partner familiarity and neurotype-matching. Research shows that autistic strangers communicate more effectively with each other than mismatched pairs of autistic and non-autistic strangers. However, Dr. Jameson is interested in investigating how these dynamics change when the communication partners are friends or family members with differing neurotypes.

In her first year at the University of Memphis, Dr. Jameson intends to establish her research lab by identifying collaborators, collecting pilot data, pursuing grant funding opportunities, and sharing findings from her dissertation research. With a commitment to advancing neurodiversity-affirming practices in speech-language pathology, Dr. Jameson is excited to contribute to both the academic and clinical communities here at Memphis.
