Sexual Assault/Rape
Sexual assault and rape is on the rise on college campuses. Studies show that at least 1 in 4 college women will be the victim of a sexual assault during her academic career. At least 80% of all sexual assaults are committed by an acquaintance of the victim. The Counseling Center provides support to students who experience this type of violence. A sexually traumatized student may feel/experience:

Range of emotions including fear, anger, rage, anxiety, sadness, shock, disbelief, confusion, humiliation, mistrust, and sometimes dissassociation or the appearance of no emotion (being detached).

Physical sensations including feeling cold, faint, nauseous.

Range of behaviors including crying, yelling, smiling, or possibly calmness.

Pain or irritation where the attacker touched or hurt them and/or general soreness and tension.
