Intimate Partner Violence

Intimate partner violence (IPV) refers to physical, sexual or psychological harm by a current or former partner or spouse. This type of violence can occur among heterosexual or same-sex couples and does not require sexual contact. Dating violence is a type of intimate partner violence. If you or someone you know is impacted by IPV, please contact the Counseling Center at 901.678.2068.

Behaviors associated with IPV often include:

  • Coercion and threats
  • Intimidation
  • Emotional abuse
  • Isolation
  • Minimizing, denying and blaming
