APA-Accredited Doctoral Internship Program

We would like to thank you for your interest in the University of Memphis Student Health and Counseling Services- Counseling Center's APA-accredited internship program!  As an agency, we see our doctoral internship as central to the vitality and quality of our organization, and we are pleased to have you consider our program. You will find a description of the program and other important information in our internship brochure.  

The internship is a 12-month, 2,000-hour program, from August 20 of this year to August 19 of the following year. Our internship program is fully accredited by the American Psychological Association. The internship was begun in 1987 and received accreditation in August 1988. Our APPIC Member number is 1559. Our NMS Match Program Code Number is 155911. The University of Memphis Student Health and Counseling Services is also accredited by the International Association of Counseling Services.

We draw from a diverse pool of candidates locally and across the United States and Canada (CPA).  As a staff, we are dedicated to continuing development around cultural humility, anti-racism, and anti-oppression, and we appreciate interns who strive to develop this same piece of professional identity.  Thank you for for exploring our site as you learn more about our training model, and the day-to-day functioning of the Doctoral Internship here at the Counseling Center at the University of Memphis.

Qualifications for Applicants Include:

  • 400 direct contact hours *applicants with less than 400 hours and are interested in applying to the program please contact the Training Director*
  • Candidates must be enrolled in counseling or clinical psychology programs
  • All relevant program coursework must be completed
  • Preference will be given to candidates from APA-accredited programs
  • It is required that candidates have completed their comprehensive exams prior to the application deadline
  • Dissertation proposals must have been approved by the start of internship
