Facilities and Equipment
The Department of Communication is housed mainly in the Art and Communication Building (ACB) which is located directly across the street from the Holiday Inn – University of Memphis.
Graduate students enjoy two recently-renovated spaces for study and collaboration – the COMM Graduate Study Center (ACB 142) and the COMM Teaching Suite (TH 237, in the adjacent Theatre Building). These rooms feature couches and chairs, microwaves and refrigerators, storage lockers, computer terminals, printers, wireless access, private offices for Graduate Assistants, and shared space for meals and meetings.
Graduate seminars are typically held around the table in the Department of Communication Library (ACB 309) which holds almost 2,000 books in rhetoric and communication studies, as well as alumni dissertations and theses.
The College of Communication and Fine Arts also houses a 24-track digital recording studio and a computer graphics lab.
Master's students in the Film and Video Production work with state-of-the-art equipment, including:
- High definition digital video and 16mm motion picture cameras
- Professional lighting and sound packages
- Non-linear video editing stations (Premiere Pro)
- Audio labs equipped with Pro-Tools digital workstations
- Film editing rooms
- A fully equipped television studio
