December 2017 Commencement Speaker - Ceremony 1
Camille Rose Potter
Receiving Bachelor of Arts
Camille Rose Potter has a true passion for community outreach, especially within the City of Memphis. Camille's journey first began as an Education Coordinator with Memphis City Beautiful–a division of Public Works within the city. During that time, she partnered with Shelby County Schools to promote community engagement through citywide cleanup and projects that engaged students, families, and community based organizations, as well as corporate volunteers. Prior to this position, Camille's career commenced in hospitality as a Guest Services Representative with the Madison Hotel. From there, she was recruited by Starwood Hotels to work in sales at the Westin Memphis Beale Street Hotel. As time passed, Camille found an interest in Public Relations and obtained an Urban Fellow internship with the City of Memphis. As a full-time hotel employee, Camille decided to return to school part-time and pursue a major in Journalism. After working in customer service for 10+ years, Camille understood the importance of communication and its role in her future career. A few of Camille's accolades include receiving Certificates of Achievement with Bluff City Snapshot, where she served as co-manager of the program and a liaison for the Division of Public Works. As of today, Camille still experiences the joys of working with Memphis youth through community clean-up gardens, National Public Lands service projects, and creating Litter Free Schools. She also volunteers with programs, such as America's Recycle Day and Adopt – A – Block.
