Community Partnerships

Actively seeking out partnerships with community-based, government, for-profit enterprises, non-profit and arts organizations, including:

  • Memphis Medical District Collaborative (UMDC)
  • Kansas State University Brownfield Mitigation Program / City of Hot Springs, AR
  • Urban Land Institute, Memphis Chapter
  • American Institute of Architects, Memphis Chapter
  • American Institute of Architects, Tennessee Chapter
  • United Housing 10K Program
  • City of Memphis and Shelby County 3.0 Comprehensive Planning (the UMDC is one of three local teams coordinating the effort)

Research and Creative Activity

Professors Michael Hagge and Sherry Bryan led the AIAS Design+Build Studio which state and national received recognition including a visit from the national president-elect of the American Institute of Architects.

Professor Jim Williamson received the Francis Gassner Award from AIA Memphis. This is the highest award AIA Memphis gives. Previous recipients from the Department of Architecture are Michael Hagge, Sherry Bryan, and Jim Lutz.

Professor Jim Williamson received the William Strickland Award from AIA Tennessee. This is the highest award AIA Tennessee gives.

Awards

UofM Department of Architecture chapter of the American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS) 2017 National Outstanding AIA Component Honor Award (with AIA Memphis).

Architecture Faculty members won Design Awards from the American Institute of Architects (Memphis, Tennessee, Gulf States Region)
