About Erica Shaw

Erica Shaw is a Memphis native, who has traveled the world through her military service.

A Marine Corps veteran, Erica served 11 ½ years active duty earning numerous awards and medals, served in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, and achieved the rank of Gunnery Sergeant before successfully ending her active service.

Ms. Shaw has continued her service through her many roles since joining the civilian ranks: ensuring military members and their families have knowledge of and access to the many programs, services, and resources available to them to assist in navigating the unique quandaries of military life; assisting college students by helping them find the intrinsic motivation to continue their higher educational journey; and offering wisdom, hope, and laughter as a public speaker.

Erica’s experience in higher education and personal and professional development with a myriad of people from varying backgrounds gives her a great wealth of knowledge that will be put to great use here at the University of Memphis.
