UofM How-To-Links for Students
Registering, Adding and Dropping Classes
For a guide on how to register for, add or drop classes, please visit the Registrar’s page to see the registration video. At the bottom of the page, you will find instructions on how to drop a class.
Be sure to check the Registrar's Office Semester Dates and Deadline pages for the Last Day to Withdrawal. Check with the Financial Aid office before withdrawing from any class, as it may negatively impact your financial aid.
Late and Retroactive Withdrawals for Undergraduate Students
Late withdrawals and retroactive withdrawals are requests to drop all courses taken during the petitioned semester after the final date to withdraw from classes has passed. These may be granted in cases that are 1) serious, 2) unforeseen, and 3) beyond your control, i.e., car accident, job transfer, death of an immediate family member, etc. Petitions are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Students must withdraw from all courses in the petitioned semester. If the withdrawal petition is approved, the student will not be eligible for another withdrawal in future semesters.
Late Withdrawal Process
Late withdrawal is used when requesting to withdraw from the current semester (after the final date to drop classes has passed) or the semester immediately previous, summer not included. AFTER the deadline, you must fill out the CAS Withdrawal petition and attach supporting documentation. Petitions without documentation will be automatically denied.
Our office will review your request, and if approved, the Director of Student Services will notify you and send a Schedule Adjustment form to the Registrar's Office to have you withdrawn from your classes. If approved, you will not be eligible for another late withdrawal in future semesters.
