From the Dean
Welcome to the College of Arts & Sciences (CAS), the home of scholarship and education in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and center for preparation of our future military leaders through the Reserve Officer Training Corps programs. We are the largest of the colleges and schools at the University of Memphis, with over 4000 undergraduate and 1000 graduate students majoring in degree programs offered by CAS academic units.
Our students are not just numbers to us, however, and they interact closely with over 600 faculty in classes averaging 30 students in size. Many CAS students are partners on faculty-led research teams, and contribute to scholarship in their disciplines as an integral part of their professional development and career preparation. Additional CAS students explore career options through internships and explore the world through study abroad opportunities. No two CAS students have exactly the same set of experiences, but all have opportunities to choose experiences that will help them reach their personal and professional goals. It is our objective to continue providing our students with the preparation they need to address the complex local and global issues facing all citizens.
