Environmental Justice in Memphis and Beyond

Environmental justice is the meeting point of environmentalism and social justice. It is the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race, color, national origin, or income, in the control of their environment.

Video: The Struggle for Environmental Justice in Memphis and Shelby County

The Anthropology Department works with the Sierra Club Chickasaw Group, community leaders, and other community organizations to host an annual Environmental Justice conference in Memphis.

Graduate students in the department have also worked to develop a Timeline of Environmental Justice Work in Memphis, and a video: The Struggle for Environmental Justice in Memphis and Shelby County.
