Calendars

There are a number of calendars that are important for faculty and administrative staff, including: 


Promotion & Tenure Calendar

April 1: Deadline for candidates to declare intent to file for promotion and/or tenure to department/college for the upcoming academic year.

May 1: List of external reviewers due to department/college.

August 1: Deans update the shared Tenure and Promotion spreadsheet listing all faculty applying for promotion and/or tenure.

September 1 to November 30: Internal deadline set by each College or School:

  • Department Heads and Committees submit recommendations to College Committee.
  • College/School Committees submit recommendations to the Dean.

December 1: Required documents from the candidates’ dossiers and recommendations of Department Chairs, Department Committees, College Committees, and Deans submitted to the Provost via OneDrive (see T&P Forms Page).

February 1: Candidates notified of the Provost’s recommendation. Provost recommendations forwarded to the President for review.

March 1: Candidates receiving a negative recommendation from the Provost must contact the Chair of the Appeals Committee if they intend to appeal the recommendation

April 1: Recommendations by the Appeals Committee are forwarded to the President for review.

May 1: The Board of Trustees will be notified of the President’s recommendations of the candidates for tenure (only) and promotion and/or tenure prior to the June board meeting.

June: The Board of Trustees will review and vote on the recommendations at its June meeting.

July: Upon notification of the Board’s approval, the President will notify the candidates of the decision.

September 1: Effective date of tenure and/or promotion of approved candidates.


Faculty Annual Evaluation

The Annual Evaluation processes begin in January. All full-time faculty (including postdocs) are to be evaluated annually. A summary of the timeline for the annual review process is below. Please consult the Faculty Handbook for detailed information about the evaluation process.

January

Faculty prepare annual reports as input for their evaluations (complete by end of the first full week of February – see Guidelines for Faculty Annual Reports)

February-March

Evaluators of faculty prepare their reviews and schedule one-on-one meetings to discuss their evaluation, as well as goals for the next year (must complete by the end of March – see Evaluation Best Practices)

Faculty review and have an opportunity to comment on the annual evaluation

Faculty acknowledge evaluation (acknowledgement should be completed by the end of the first full week in April)

April

Approvers review and approve faculty evaluations

May

Notifications sent by approvers to faculty needing to develop performance improvement plans or to participate in post-tenure review as detailed in the Faculty Handbook


Faculty Evaluation of Chairs and Directors

Faculty Evaluation of Chairs & Directors

All full-time faculty (including post-docs) have an opportunity to provide input into the evaluation of their chair/director.

January

Faculty Evaluation of Chairs & Directors opens the first Monday of January and closes on January 31.
