UofM Promotion Timetables


Tenure track faculty must apply for tenure and promotion at the beginning of the fall semester of their last probationary year (typically the beginning of the sixth year).

Faculty applying for promotion (and not tenure) may apply at the beginning of the fall semester after five years in their initial appointment or prior promotion (thus the beginning of the sixth year).

Promotion and/or tenure will be effective for 9-month faculty the fall semester of the next year on September 1.

Promotion and/or tenure will be effective for 12-month faculty at the start of the next fiscal year on July 1.
