Career Opportunities
The Real Estate Minor is ideally suited for the students wanting to learn more about the real estate field while still pursuing a major in another field of study. The real estate field is very broad and provides students a wide range of different careers opportunities in real estate and related industries. The Real Estate Minor is designed to provide flexibility for the student to select advanced real estate classes in the major real estate areas they are most interested in.
Opportunities exist both in private industry and in government. As a career can be involved in:
- Buying, selling or leasing property for residential, commercial or industrial uses.
- Managing, financing or evaluating residential, commercial and industrial properties.
- Developing subdivisions, shopping centers and other properties.
- Valuation of residential or commercial real estate for government, industry or private use.
- Working in real estate related industries such as title companies, mortgage banking, land use planning and architecture.
Scholarships and Internships
Scholarships are available (from $250 to $5,000) to a number of students. On-campus and off-campus opportunities are available through area internship programs and industry introductory positions.
Minor Requirements
- For Students Whose Major Is in the Fogelman College of Business and Economics (9 hours):
- FIR 3310 - Real Estate Principle
And 6 hours (two classes) from the following:
- FIR 4310 – Real Estate Law
- FIR 4320 – Real Estate Finance
- FIR 4330 – Principles of Property Management
- FIR 4340 – Real Estate Appraisal
- FIR 4350 – Real Estate Investment
- FIR 4911 - Internship in Finance, Insurance, Real Estate
For Students Whose Major Is within another College at the University (21 hours):
- ACCT 2010 - Fundamentals of Acct I
- ECON 2020 - Intro to Microeconomics
- FIR 3310 - Real Estate Principles
- FIR 3410 - Financial Management
And 9 hours (three classes) chosen from the following:
- FIR 4310 – Real Estate Law
- FIR 4320 – Real Estate Finance
- FIR 4330 – Principles of Property Management
- FIR 4340 – Real Estate Appraisal
- FIR 4350 – Real Estate Investment
- FIR 4911 - Internship in Finance, Insurance, Real Estate
