The Prime Cut Band with Vicki Newsum performs every last Friday of the month in Downtown
Memphis. The event takes place at Maramalde Restaurant & Lounge, located on 153 G.E.
Patterson. It begins at 9 p.m. and lasts until midnight.
In addition to their monthly performances, the band will play at Huey's Southwind,
located on 7825 Winchester Road. The event takes place on Sunday, November 16th, 2014
starting at 8:30 p.m. and ends at 12:30 a.m.
Prime Cut Band is a contemporary jazz/R&B group that plays a variety of styles of
music from Country to Reggae. Prime Cut has four members: Kent Suggs on bass, Andre’
Holman on drums, Audie Smith on keyboards and Frank Phillips on vocals.
Kent Suggs is a world traveled musician that comfortably plays and instructs students
in Blues, Jazz and Christian instrumental and vocal music. He been playing on Beale
Street since age 15, performing with Memphis musicians such as Joyce Cobb, Herman
Green, Calvin and Phineas Newborn, Nokie Taylor, Isaac Hayes, and Rufus & Carla Thomas.
Kent spent some time in Las Vegas working and traveling with acts like Gladys Knight,
The Drifters, Ink Spots, Low Rawls, and Little Anthony and the Imperials. Currently,
in addition to being the Bass player for Prime Cut Band he’s a music director at the
Firehouse Community Arts Academy.
Andre’ Holman has performed with Ruby Wilson, Marlin Branch and Monday’s Child and
Audie Smith is known for playing at his parent’s restaurant, Marmalade Restaurant,
as well as Folks Folly and the French Quarter. Audie also spent 6 years performing
around New York with local acts, opening for performers such as Roy Ayers and the
Main Ingredients. In Memphis, he has backed performers like Denise LaSalle and J.
Black Foot of The Soul Children
