There are so many good things going on at the University of Memphis that it’s hard to know where to start as you map out your college career.

Good StuffIf studying other cultures up close is something that interests you, the U of M’s study abroad program will allow you to experience that firsthand. From Central and South America to Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia, students can choose their program and their country of interest through the university’s participation in both the International and National Student Exchange Programs. Study abroad scholarships are available for academically talented students who plan to enroll in an exchange or other approved program in a foreign country. Priority is given to students in programs that promote the development of international competency, which is defined as the acquisition of a foreign language or extended experience in a foreign culture. The amount awarded depends on the length and duration of a program.

Students can attend performances and athletic events free with their student ID cards.  This includes performances of the Department of Theatre and Dance and the Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music, as well as Tiger athletic events, including men’s basketball and football.

Since studying plays a major role in college life, the Ned R. McWherter Library is a good place to know. As the most electronically up-to-date information repository within several hundred miles, the library allows students to tap into information stored in libraries around the world. Not only are there more than 13 million items in the library collection, but the library also houses a Learning Commons with over 100 computer workstations and another 60-plus seat TigerLAN lab, both of which are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Good StuffThe Student Activities Council (SAC) makes sure students are never bored throughout the semester. SAC brings a number of speakers, entertainers, comic performances and other activities to campus throughout the year.

And, if you have a cause that’s dear to your heart, the U of M probably has a group that you can join. With more than 170 registered student organizations, you can find everything from religious groups and student government organizations to Lifeblood, Up ‘Til Dawn, Habit for Humanity, Homes for the Homeless and Tigers for Organ Donation.  That’s in addition to all of the Greek fraternities and sororities and major-specific organizations.

It all adds up to limitless opportunities to get involved, both on campus and off, while getting your degree at the University of Memphis.
