UM Faculty, Staff and Alumni FREE Night at the Theatre!

Each U of M faculty, staff and alum may request two free tickets to the performance.

We are excited about all of the creative work happening in the Theatre Building on Central Avenue and we want to share that with the entire campus community and at the same time celebrate all of the hard working folks at the university. So, once again,  we are offering a special faculty and staff evening at the theatre for FREE.

The first Friday of each of our Mainstage shows will be faculty, staff and alumni night.
Each U of M faculty, staff and alum may request two free tickets to the performance. You may also purchase extra tickets for $15 if you would like to invite more than one guest.

It has been quite a year and we all need a good laugh! The Department of Theatre & Dance invites all UM faculty, staff and alumni to take a break and join us for a FREE night at the theatre for our final production this season –Tom Stoppard's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead this Friday, April 18 at 7:30pm.

The University of Memphis closes the season with a contemporary twist on a classic tale! Third-year directing candidate Paul Revaz directs this absurdist take on the story of told from the skewed and unexpected perspective of two relatively minor characters - Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. Comedy unfolds as the two oft-confused supporting players, bewildered by their mission and their reason for being, take center stage. Madcap humor, witty wordplay, gripping tension and a heady swirl of ideas all come together in this story of two nobodies who long to star in their own story.

At the forefront of Paul's remarkable cast are two extremely gifted actors – David Couter and Jon Castro, playing, respectively, the characters of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. This is no small feat because, unlike Shakespeare's minor players in Hamlet, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are at the center of the action – never leaving stage. Last spring Couter and Castro played opposite each other with palpable chemistry in The Pillowman. As leaders in the program, the two young artists have had many roles, preparing them for this tour-de-force.

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead also features some of U of M's brightest talent in supporting roles, including Luke Hefner (Anatoly in Chess, Raoul in Phantom of the Opera) with Jake Bell, Justin Burgess, Kaitlyn Maurer, Jerry Rogers, Sarah Solarez, Sterling Church, Bradley Applegate, Kevin Cochran, Corwyn Cullum, Willie Derrick, Caleb Leach, Jessica Otis, and Hunter Reid.
