How do I apply?

Beginning August 18, 2104, all applicants seeking admission to a PhD Program must apply through the centralized on-line Schools of Public Health Application Service (SOPHAS) system.  Before beginning an application, please read through the SOPHAS FAQs.  Click here for FAQs for US Applicants, and click here for FAQs for International Applicants.  Applicants must also apply for admission to the University of Memphis Graduate School; this will be done through the SOPHAS system.  Please note that SOPHAS has a limited number of waivers to cover the application fee; check the SOPHAS website for details.

Application Process for US Applicants

  • Go to the SOPHAS website and create an account
  • Have all official transcripts sent to SOPHAS
  • Self-report GRE scores and have official scores sent to SOPHAS using school code 6980
  • Prepare and submit your Statement of Purpose and Objectives (750-1000 words)
  • Obtain three (3) letters of recommendation.  Letters must be signed and on official letterhead. At least one letter should be from a current or former faculty member.
  • Prepare and submit a curriculum vitae (resume)
  • Apply to the University of Memphis Graduate School using link on SOPHAS website (the fee for US citizens and permanent residents is $35)

Application process for International Applicants

  • Go to the SOPHAS website and create an account
  • Have TOEFL test scores sent to SOPHAS
  • Have WES  evaluation of international student transcripts sent to SOPHAS using school code 6980
  • Prepare and submit your Statement of Purpose and Objectives (750-1000 words)
  • Obtain three (3) letters of recommendation.  Letters must be signed and on official letterhead. At least one letter should be from a current or former faculty member.
  • Prepare and submit a curriculum vitae (resume)
  • Apply to the University of Memphis Graduate School using link on SOPHAS website (the fee is $60 for  international students and non-permanent residents)
