The University of Memphis is seeking nominations for its honorary degree award, which
is given to individuals who merit special recognition for their extraordinary achievements
that have improved the community, contributed to society, and benefited the University.
A nominee’s career should reflect sustained, exceptional achievement in a profession
or in some field of scholarship, public service, or an artistic, literary, governmental,
financial, professional, research, leadership, cultural affairs, or other endeavor.
Nominations should be mailed to: Honorary Degree Committee, Office of the Provost,
360 Administration Building, University of Memphis, Memphis, Tenn., 38152.
The deadline for nominations is November 23.
Past recipients of the honorary degree include Bobby Fogelman, businessman and philanthropist;
Dr. W. Harry Feinstone, pharmaceutical researcher; Rudi E. Scheidt, philanthropist
and retired cotton industry executive; and Frederick W. Smith, chairman, president,
and CEO of FedEx Corporation.
