Each year, hundreds of children are hurt while playing with toys that are unsafe or
inappropriate for their age. Just in time for the holidays, the Ready, Set, Grow!
program at the University of Memphis will host a Toy Safety and Selection Fair on
Saturday, Dec. 5, from 1:30 to 3:30 pm. at the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library,
3030 Poplar Ave.
The fair is free and open to the public. Especially welcome are parents, grandparents,
child care providers, and anyone who purchases toys and books for infants, toddlers,
and preschoolers.
From 2 to 2:45 pm., a workshop will be led by two experts who will discuss how to
select appropriate toys and books for a child’s age group or developmental level.
Vendors will display their toys and books from 1:30 to 3:30.
Ready, Set, Grow! is an accreditation facilitation project of the U of M’s College
of Education funded by the Plough Foundation. It mobilizes leaders in business, government,
education, and the child care community around the common purpose that every young
child in Shelby County cared for outside the home should receive the highest quality
care and education possible.
