In recognition of International Education Week, the University of Memphis’ Study Abroad
Program will present an International Photo Contest exhibit Nov. 16-22. The photos
were taken by U of M students while studying abroad in 2008-09.
Thirty photos will be on display in the rotunda of the Ned R. McWherter Library. They
will include images from Hungary, Switzerland, Japan, China, Spain, Germany, France,
Denmark, the Dominican Republic, Ghana, Costa Rica, the Czech Republic, Poland, India,
Italy, England and Wales.
A lecture and awards ceremony will take place Nov. 18 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. in the
library rotunda. Dr. Jim Blythe, a professor and graduate coordinator in the U of
M’s Department of History, will discuss how to capture a cross-cultural experience
in a photo.
Photos will be judged on their ability to communicate a cross-cultural message and
their artistic merit. The judging committee comprises faculty, staff, and one student.
First prize is a $750 travel voucher to any destination in the world, second prize
is a $500 travel voucher, and third prize is a four-piece luggage set donated by Travelennium.
