The Advanced Distributed Learning Memphis Intelligent Tutoring Center at the University
of Memphis is offering a unique and web-based tutorial system to college students
and third- through 12th-graders this summer.
The SOLE (Summer Online Learning Experience) Program links students with ALEKS (Assessment
Learning in Knowledge Spaces). ALEKS is a sophisticated online tutorial system that
assesses each student’s knowledge and skill level and then provides them with an interactive,
individualized, and self-paced tutoring system.
The SOLE program runs during June, July, and August and costs $36 for three months,
which includes unlimited use of the ALEKS program for those who register by June 15. A late registration fee will be applied after that date.
College students can register for advanced mathematical concepts and topics, such
as statistics, while grade-school children can sign up for tutoring in mathematics
Previous studies conducted with ALEKS show that students who use ALEKS score higher
than average on statewide-standardized exams, such as the Tennessee Comprehensive
Assessment Program (TCAP).
