The University of Memphis’ Herff College of Engineering will honor Tom DeHart as its
Outstanding Alumnus at its annual awards dinner Tuesday, March 3, at the University
Holiday Inn, 3700 Central. A reception will begin at 6 p.m., followed by the dinner
and program at 6:30.

DeHart earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial technology in 1968. He is CEO of the
DeHart Group, which represents companies operating in transportation and logistics,
professional back-office services (including human resources), and entertainment marketing
strategies. Under his leadership, the DeHart Group has grown to include 12 companies,
and it employs and contracts with more than 4,500 people.
DeHart, a former Tiger football player, is a member of the M Club and a Life Member
of the Alumni Association. He established the DeHart Transportation Fund to support
research initiatives at the U of M’s Center for Advanced Intermodal Technologies (CAIT)
and serves on the CAIT advisory board.
The Herff College will present its Distinguished Service Award to CN Worldwide North
American Railroad, Cargill Corn Milling, Carrier Corp., and the Women’s Foundation
for a Greater Memphis. They will be recognized for their efforts to recruit new talent
to the field of engineering.
