U of M Professor Wins Miami University Press Novella ContestFor release: February 12, 2008 For press information, contact Gabrielle Maxey Cary Holladay, associate professor of English at the University of Memphis, has won the Miami University Press novella contest sponsored by Miami University of Ohio. The prize is $1,000, plus publication of her novella, A Fight in the Doctor's Office, in book form. Holladay's work of fiction was chosen from more than 150 entries.
Holladay's previous publications include a novel, Mercury, and three volumes of short stories: The Quick-Change Artist, The Palace of Wasted Footsteps, and The People Down South.
Holladay teaches fiction writing at the U of M. Her stories have appeared in such publications as New Stories from the South, Epoch, and The Georgia Review.
She has received numerous honors, including the Goodheart Prize, the Paul Bowles Prize for Fiction, and the O. Henry Award. In 2006 she was awarded a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship.
