An original design by Nia James, a sixth grader in Dr. Hatcher’s class at the Campus School at the University of Memphis, was selected for this year’s University holiday card, which will be sent electronically from the U of M to more than 45,000 alumni, friends, and constituents around the world.

At a ceremony attended by University President Shirley Raines, the top three contest winners were announced, as were the top winners from each classroom at the Campus School.  The awards presentation was held at an assembly of all the students, the faculty, and students’ parents and guests.

Nia received a $200 U.S. savings bond, a bag of University-themed gifts, and her original artwork professionally matted and framed.  Nia is the daughter of Mia and Richard James of Memphis.

Second place went to Kennedi Rachel, who is in Ms. Prevette’s second grade class.  She received her artwork matted and framed and a $100 U.S. savings bond.  She is the daughter of Kristin Young and Geroy Rachel of Memphis.

Third place was awarded to Kyoko Smith, a first-grader in Ms. McClendon’s class.  She received her artwork matted and framed and a $50 U.S. savings bond.  She is the daughter of Kelly Haney of Memphis.
