U of M Student Receives Elaine Averick Award from PRSSAFor release: April 1, 2008 For press information, contact Gabrielle Maxey Kelly McFall, a senior public relations major at the University of Memphis, has received the Elaine Averick Outstanding National Committee Member Award from the Public Relations Student Society of America. The award recognizes dedicated service to the National Committee and to the membership of PRSSA.
"I believe I won this award because I took regional activities above and beyond this year," McFall said. "I made a huge promise last year to the Society that if they elected me to the national committee, I would call every chapter and try to get each of them to submit a bid to host a regional activity. I did call every chapter, and this year we received more bids than ever before, and we have more regional activities than ever before." McFall is the daughter of Richard L. and Robyn W. McFall of Collierville and a 2004 graduate of Gateway Christian School. Tiffany Riggs, a senior public relations major, was elected to the National Committee as the 2008-09 vice president of chapter development. Riggs’ election immediately following McFall’s marks the first time two U of M students have been elected to the National Committee two years in a row. Riggs is the current U of M PRSSA chapter president, and McFall will be the 2008-09 chapter president. The Elaine Averick award was presented at the PRSSA 2008 National Assembly in San Diego, where the 2008-09 National Committee was elected.
