Pride and Equity Alliance - A circle of faculty and staff embracing the LGBTQ+ community

Diversity and inclusion is not just one of our core values. It’s one of our foundational strengths. – Dr. M. David Rudd, UofM President

The LGBTQ+ community is welcomed, valued, and supported at the University of Memphis and has a lot of friends standing with them in the Pride and Equity Alliance.

The University of Memphis is an inclusive, forward-thinking university that welcomes and supports all faculty, staff, and students. We celebrate our diversity, we educate our campus about our differences, and we respect all people. We are dedicated to creating a campus environment that nurtures and protects all people who identify as a member of the LGBTQ+ community.

The Pride and Equity Alliance at the University of Memphis is comprised of faculty and staff (members and non-members of the LGBTQ+ community) who are working together for the following:

  • To raise awareness of the LGBTQ+ community’s needs
  • To identify and correct shortcomings at the university
  • To combat macro and micro aggressions
  • To review processes to ensure inclusion and fairness
  • To educate the University of Memphis community

The Pride and Equity Alliance is involved in many areas on campus and throughout the city. Members of the alliance represent the University of Memphis at campus events such as conferences, fairs, and gatherings as well as participate in city events or city organizations such as Pride Fest and Out Memphis. As a place of employment, the University of Memphis offers top-notch benefits to the LGBTQ+ community and sets the tone for a culture of acceptance for all employees. The alliance mentors the LGBTQ+ student population at the University of Memphis and reviews student life so that corrective measures can be taken, ensuring the best student experience possible for the LGBTQ+ population.

The Pride and Equity Alliance strives to create a better University of Memphis and a better Memphis for everyone of all gender designations and sexual orientations through partnerships, education, and the purest respect.

All Love. All Tigers.
