Youth Neighborhood Mapping Initiative

New Pathways, Inc.
New Pathways, Inc. is the community development corporation for the Peabody-Vance neighborhood.    In addition to seeking a "rebirth between Midtown and Downtown" they also engage youth in revitalizing the area.  One example of a youth project is the Youth Civic Action Team is a group that organizes trash cleanup efforts and monitors vacant homes in the Peabody-Vance area.  Members of the YCAT spoke with participants and provided some insight into the various ways in which they could get involved to affect change.

The Memphis Room at the Central Library
The primary focus of the Peabody-Vance project was on developing a neighborhood history which led to the introduction of the Memphis Room at the central public library, an invaluable resource for researching the developmental and cultural history of Memphis and its neighborhoods.

Memphis Heritage
Memphis Heritage is a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to preserving historic and architecturally significant structures in the Memphis area and to educate the public about the importance of these places.  Introducing the participants to the goals and mission of this organization provides a resource for researching the history and significance of their neighborhood as well as providing insight into a branch of city planning.
